Volunteer and Intern Opportunities

YWCA of the Upper Lowlands has been on the front lines of the biggest issues of the day for over 50 years, with our focus on eliminating racism and empowering women.
As a prominent domestic service provider and trusted equity and justice partner in Sumter, Clarendon and Lee Counties, we offer diverse volunteer, intern, and outreach opportunities within the community promoting
Volunteering at YWCA of the Upper Lowlands is a two-step process:
1. Application – Complete a brief application and a staff person will follow-up and move you to the next step to begin your volunteer journey with us!
2. Volunteer Screening – YWCA of the Upper Lowlands utilizes screening of all volunteers through SC Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and SC DSS request for central registry and/or child abuse record check. All fees are paid by the volunteer.

Guest Speaking: Share your journey, professional insights, or life-skills expertise during workshops, youth programs, or empowerment seminars.

Marketing & Communications: Assist with social media content creation, graphic design, newsletter drafting, or local public relations campaigns to amplify our mission.

Community Outreach
As a Community Outreach Volunteer, you will drive YWCA UL’s efforts to educate the public on building a community free of domestic violence. You will represent the agency by raising awareness and sharing information about our services across the three counties we serve.

Staff informational and resource tables at community events and health fairs.

Manage the setup and breakdown of promotional booths and event materials.

Engage empathetically with a diverse community across various cultures and backgrounds.

Maintain a clear understanding of YWCA UL programs to accurately share local resources.

Travel to outreach events throughout Sumter, Lee, and Clarendon Counties.

Maintain flexibility for occasional evening or weekend events.
Group & Short-Term Opportunities
Group Volunteer Projects
Make an Impact with Hands-On Projects: Perfect for civic organizations, corporate teams, faith communities, or student groups. Projects may include shelter beautification, facility organizing, seasonal landscaping, or supply drives.
Lend a Helping Hand (Short-Term & Event-Based)
Support Our Programs and Operations: If you want to make a difference but have a busy schedule, join us for short-term projects. Opportunities include assisting with major fundraising event planning, day-of event logistics, or short-term administrative support for upcoming initiatives
